Principal Resigns

John Read Middle School, Principal Dr. Diane Martin has resigned, and a search for her replacement is underway.

In a letter to parents, Redding Superintendent Tom McMorran wrote:

I am writing to let you know that Dr. Diane Martin, Principal of John Read Middle School, has tendered her resignation to me. Dr. Martin has accepted a position in another district.

With fifteen years of conscientious service to the Redding community as principal of John Read Middle School, Dr. Martin has made a lasting contribution to the well being and education of our students.

At a special meeting of the Redding Board of Education on Thursday, July 25, the Board directed me to conduct a search for an interim principal. The plan is to have an experienced principal serve a one-year interim term. This will give the Board time to conduct a thorough search for a new principal. Part of that search will include the use of community focus groups to define the attributes best suited to the work of leading the middle school.

On behalf of the Redding public schools, I have thanked Dr. Martin for her many years of service. On a personal note, I have enjoyed a dozen years of collaboration and friendship with Dr. Martin and as will be the case for those of us fortunate enough to work as your leadership team, I will miss her wise counsel.

I will inform the community of the interim appointment when we have secured that position.

Respectfully,

Tom McMorran

Superintendent of Schools
